Board & Brush- Lexington, KY

Updated: Sep 9, 2019

In search of an imaginative girls’ night out, a lively afternoon with a friend or a great birthday idea? Board & Brush offers a unique and creative activity with the added perk of providing you a personalized piece of art.

Begin by checking the class schedules on Board & Brush's website. Workshops are available in Lexington, Louisville, Paducah, Bowling Green and Crestwood, Kentucky. Select a convenient time and location and then the real fun begins - choosing your design!

Search among categories such as Family, Seasonal, Sports, Lake & Beach, Office, Pets, Pool, Clock, Wedding, Bar and more. If you're like me without an inch of open wall space, no problem. You can embellish trays, planters or boxes. Compose a plaque commemorating your favorite holiday for seasonal display. Customize an endearing gift for someone special. I invited a sweet friend and logo designer, Monica King as my guest.

You needn’t be super artistic to enjoy a workshop at Board & Brush. All of the guides are made with stencils and the staff is ready to answer questions and be of assistance.

Registered for a class with the project chosen in advance, your work station will be set up and ready upon arrival. Time to sand, stain and assemble your wooden handiwork! Power tools are available, but fear not. When needed, workers are happy to lend a hand. To portray a rustic look, add stress to your piece by tapping impressions with a hammer, meat tenderizer or bottle cap.

The studio's walls are decorated with finished projects for inspiration. Visuals of stains and colors provide context to aid in your choices.

Yes, I spilled my stain! See puddle.

I selected a fairly complicated (of course), yet manageable concept involving two stencils.  After staining, a blue diagram was attached and then painted over.

Once the stencil was removed, an elegant tree outline was revealed! Another template with my wording overlaid the tree.

We had an absolute blast designing our boards and were delighted with the professional results!

My completed project. I don't mind saying I think it's stunning and love the adage.

Some inventive and pleasing treatments were built during my workshops. Here’s some of the other class members' projects.

Get your card stamped while you are there to receive a free workshop after ten visits. Don’t forget they offer private parties which are excellent for team building, birthday or pre-wedding celebrations.

Monica settled on a large, personalized measuring stick for her children. Adorable! Once Monica's piece was installed, the kids eagerly lined up to get measured.

Forming warm, family memories.

Monica is also the talented graphic designer behind my logo!

Please note that this is not a BYOB class.  However you can purchase beer and wine from the bar.

I'm thrilled with my lovely plaque, the perfect compliment to this quaint, old garage.

What a cool idea! I love the idea of a girls night here. I already see so many signs that I want to make in your pictures. I also see a few that would make great gifts too.
